So ah, what, is Richard O'Brien lying? I guess there's no current application because it's already been declined.

Whilst I don't totally agree with the immigration laws, I don't see why he should be treated any differently to anyone else. Seperate rules for the rich and famous is just bollocks

it's not really separate rules since he is claimed, by this country, as a new zealander - however much of a stretch that is (+ there's a statue of him + he's loaded (will keep briscoes afloat etc etc))

Quote but it is separate rules.. new zealand 'claiming' him as a new zealander doesn't make it so. dont see why he should be treated any differently to the thousands of other people in his position just cause there's a statue of him down town h town tbh...

You really wouldn't treat him any differently to some random if you met him? I bet you would. Sometimes its not a matter of "this person shouldn't be treated differently", but "this person is going to be treated differently". Its like, if there was a child molester in your house, why should he be treated any differently to anyone else? He says hes a new zealander, new zealand claims him as a new zealander, hes a fucking NZer, no matter the law says.

Of course if I were to meet him on the street i'd treat him differently. I'd be like "hey, nice statue". Don't get me wrong, I think people should be able to live where the fuck they want no matter where they come from, but that requires a whole new set of laws in a completely different society, which is another topic all together... All I'm saying is, if there is a law in place, it should apply equally to all people, no matter who they are.

Its not always about who the person is only, but the circumstances. Helen clark speeding motorcade- shouldn't get off a speeding ticket. Man driving his in labour mrs to the hospital- should get off his speeding ticket.

Remove the statue, put it in Canberra, and give the dude an Aussie passport. Simple.

Not that weird. The point is, Australia would have given him a passport by now if it had been the same situation. Why? Because he would be another cultural commodity to go next to the shampoo. Barnsy Farnsy. By the way, 'Six Ribbons' is a song by John English', who is Australian.

No, Australia doesn't give out passports for people who haven't applied for them. But I think they would fast track an application from someone they thought was of noteworthy inclusion into the cultural cannon, and that they had already cast in metal in a town that had cultural links to the origin of a major international cult musical. New Zealand might end up doing the same, as political points could easily be scored by doing so, especially by National. If the end result is a passport for Richard O'Brien, good, personally I don't care if they do milk it for good PR. Muldoon already did that, narrating the show in Auckland in the '80s. Fast-tracking a Richard O'Brien passport application and milking it properly PR-wise would be an easy 3 points infront of the posts.

I think its all just a ploy so Mark Servian can get onto the front page of the press again: stage one of his world domination agenda.
