It’s been an interesting two weeks for Buzz, since the last issue. We’ve had the damnation of people who can’t handle opinions, the support of those who appreciate honesty, and best of all, the money of those who can afford to pay our extravagant costs.
We’ve also seen some outlets be rid of all their copies of Buzz in a matter of days, and others in a matter of hours (with the help of the publisher’s eternal enemy, Mr Bin (not Laden, that’s Mr PuBlusher’s eternal foe... and one day, maybe our saviour, who knows...)
Thanks heaps to everyone who’s been reading Buzz and visiting htown.co.nz, we’ve been online what, 4 weeks or so and got 60 odd members already? Kick ass. Remember, once you’re on, you can publicize your gigs, upload pics and what not to the site. Easy as that.
To all those petty individuals out there who’d rather see a supportive, yet honest and critical Htown music publication flounder and struggle on purely materialistic terms... GET OVER IT. I have.
I was reading in Nexus today about the closure of The Temple in Auckland, and the problems Aqua Velvet are having out there in Raglan. It really does suck that the Temple is closing up - it is basically the first point of contact most originals bands would ever have had with the Auckland scene, and until October 12, will ever have. I went and saw Washington DC band Trans Am with Kiwi guys Xanadu at Aqua Velvet earlier this year and it was great. An eye opening performance from both bands, that wouldn’t even get a look in at playing anywhere here in this city.
Support the venues we currently already have, whether they be hired specifically or a regular free-play venue, cause the pressure is on. The alternative is to be left with shite oonst and immoveable covers bands in pubs, or no live music at all...
